Position Overview
Clark Dietz is seeking an experienced construction engineer to serve as Team Leader for our Central Indiana Construction Team. The selected candidate will lead a multi-discipline team which serves INDOT, and LPA clients with planning and design for transportation projects in Central Indiana. This position will be responsible for managing staff and construction projects, providing technical guidance and acting as the point of contact for clients throughout the region.
Key Responsibilities
- Provides leadership and oversight for transportation projects within the area and actively contributes to the growth and success of the team and its clients.
- Leads and serves a group of professionals which includes engineers, designers, surveyors, utility coordinators and NEPA specialists.
- Collaborates with the Area Manager and business development staff on client/project pursuits and maintenance of existing client relationships.
- Works with the marketing staff on proposals and campaigns to promote the practice across various media channels.
- Assists the Area Manager with billing, monitoring project performance, workload forecasting, staff utilization and other administrative tasks.
- Leads or assists with scope, schedule, and fee negotiations and any contract amendments as needed.
- Leads or participates in project coordination meetings and ensures QA/AC processes are implemented and followed.
- Accountable for project performance and project deliverables; manages scope creep and takes corrective action as needed.
- Provides quarterly coaching to staff, conducts regular staff meetings, and actively works to build the depth of the team through training and development activities.
- Performs administrative functions including timesheet and expense report approval; conducts candidate interviews and makes staffing recommendations.
- Collaborates with other Team Leaders and staff throughout the region and company to share work and resources as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and IN PE license are required.
- 10+ years of experience with transportation design projects; experience with project and people management is required.
- Experience with the planning, design and construction of roadway improvements for DOT and LPA clients.
- Knowledge of the INDOT Design Manual and Project Development Process for roadway projects, including submittals, permitting and environmental requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully manage people and projects.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to develop client relationships, market new business, make public presentations and write technical reports.
- Knowledgeable with the capabilities of various transportation design tools including Open Roads Designer.
- Valid driver’s license and the ability to travel to client and project sites as needed.
